Rapture Surfcamp Nicaragua is a casual and social surf camp for travelers of all budgets. Located in southern Nicaragua near San Juan del Sur, Rapture sits on a hillside property above Playa Maderas with sweeping views of the jungle and ocean.
This new property is small yet spacious, with a stunning infinity pool that looks out over the jungle, Pacific Ocean, and amazing sunsets. With cozy hammocks, plentiful common spaces, and a community atmosphere, this surf camp is a great spot for anyone looking for a social yet low-key surf vacation.
Rapture has multiple types of accommodation to suit a variety of budgets – choose from roomy 4- and 8-person dorm rooms, light-filled modern private rooms, or very cool glamping tents equipped with comfortable king size beds, ocean views, private decks and private bathrooms.
All nightly accommodations include a delicious daily breakfast and dinners from Sunday to Thursday, as well as trips to surf spots and guided surfing (from Monday through Saturday). Surf lessons, surfboard rentals, yoga classes, and other extras can be added a la carte, so you can build your own package depending on your needs.

Inside
The open-air communal spaces are spacious and comfortable. The main dining/living/bar area has high vaulted ceilings, a pool table, and plenty of spots to hang. The dorm rooms are airy, with 4- and 8- bed options, and private rooms are simple but comfortable (both A/C and fan options available).
Outside
On a hilltop surrounded by jungle on all sides with panoramic views, the property is a secluded spot, yet it’s only about a 15-minute walk to Playa Maderas. Around the infinity pool there are plenty of places to relax – post up on a chaise lounge, comfy sun bed, or a hammock on the lawn.
Eat & Drink
All stays include a delicious daily breakfast, dinners from Sunday to Thursday, and unlimited purified drinking water. Fridays are Pizza Night and Saturdays are BBQ Night, which are not included, but a great deal. There’s an onsite bar, and more dining options on the beach at Playa Maderas.
The Surf
Nicaragua is known for an abundance of consistent waves and 300+ days of offshore winds – which enable you to surf all day, almost every day. The peak surf season is March through August when the larger and more consistent south swells show up, but if you’re a beginner any time of year is good. In the area near Rapture, there are a number of excellent surf spots and the camp’s surf guides look for the best conditions every day to shuttle you to the spots that are working best. If you would like to visit the famous breaks in the north (Playa Manzanillo, Playa Colorado, Panga Drops, etc), daily boat trips are available at an extra cost.

Playa Maderas is a tiny beach village near the town of San Juan del Sur on the southwest coast of Nicaragua with great surf and chill tropical vibes. The beach break at Playa Maderas is one of the best in the San Juan del Sur area, with pumping year-round consistent (and sometimes hollow) surf.
Getting There
The best option is to fly into the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA) in Managua, or you can also fly into Liberia Airport (LIR) in Costa Rica (although this is less advised because you have to cross the border which can be time-consuming). Rapture offers airport transfers at an additional cost of ~$86 (for 1 – 4 people, each way) from/to the Managua Airport, or ~$123 (for 1 – 4 people, each way) from/to the Liberia Airport.
