The Surf
Santa Teresa and nearby Mal País, located on Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula, have become one of the country’s most sought-after surf zones, thanks to a wide variety of point breaks and beach breaks that are warm, fun, consistent, and user-friendly. The area caters to everyone from first-time surfers to seasoned chargers. The local waves really light up during the Southern Hemisphere swell season (April through September), when the largest swells of the year roll through—ideal for intermediate and advanced surfers looking for more power and size. That said, there are fun, consistent waves year-round. During the winter “offseason,” conditions mellow out with smaller, more manageable surf, making this an excellent time for beginners and intermediates to build confidence and skills.
