Six Senses Laamu

Impeccable luxury at a private island paradise, just meters from one of the Maldives’ best surf breaks.

Rising out of the water like a mirage, Six Senses Laamu sits on the private island of Olhuveli in the Maldives, surrounded by a bright turquoise Indian Ocean. The only resort in the Laamu Atoll, getting here is a journey but it’s well worth it to experience this remote and remarkable destination.

Feel like a castaway with nothing standing between you and sea at Six Senses Laamu, a dream getaway for couples and families who appreciate the finer things in life alongside pristine surf conditions. Each of the 97 water and beach front villas have views of the Indian Ocean, and single or multiple room accommodations are available.

The minimalism of the surroundings – blue skies, clear waters, and sandy beaches – influenced the resort’s experience where the architecture and design mirror nature. Don’t let minimalism mean austerity, every detail here has been carefully thought out using sustainable materials and intentional decor.

The resort is home to the Maldives’ largest overwater amenities facility including a wine cellar, restaurants, a boutique, the dive center, and more. Some of the complimentary activities that come with your reservation include kayaking, catamaran sailing, SUP, windsurfing, yoga, and outdoor movie nights for starters.

The sea is literally the limit here: you can have a picnic on a deserted beach, dinner on the sand at sunset, or cocktails on a sailboat – just let the Six Senses team work out the details.

Built with sustainable materials, the overwater and beachfront villas are all designed in harmony with nature, drawing on the minimal surrounding elements to inspire the interiors. Glass bottom tubs float over the water, walls of windows bring the outdoors in, and flowing fabrics billow in the breeze.

In summary: postcard-perfect island paradise. Find ocean access from almost every point of the resort – from the stunning overwater villas to the oceanfront locale of the beach villas. Laamu’s top surf break, Ying Yangs, is just a short boat ride away with frequent departures during the surf season.

Eat & Drink

Multiple onsite restaurants offer everything from Japanese Fusion to Mediterranean – choose overwater, beachfront, or even right on the sand for your dining adventure, complemented by signature cocktails and fresh food from the organic garden or the ocean. Bonus: gourmet ice cream parlor.

The Surf

There are three main surf zones in the Maldives – the central atolls (Laamu), the southern atolls, and the Male atolls. Six Senses Laamu is located in the Laamu Atolls which are the least crowded surf zone in the Maldives and feature a number of quality waves. There’s a couple of fast rippable lefts only a short paddle from the resort beach, another wave that’s ideal for beginners, and right across the channel is Yin Yangs – a consistent spot with potential for perfect right hand barrels. Peak surf months are during the southeast monsoon season, which typically stretches from May through October.
