When surprise plans for my husband Eric’s birthday trip to Mexico fell through two weeks before departure, I had to come up with a surprise Plan B. My priorities: access to great surf, barefoot luxury, primo food, and family-friendly, since we would have our toddler in tow.
I knew just the place to check all of the boxes and boy, did it deliver.
Nestled between the jungled cliffs and pristine beaches of Punta De Mita, Susurros del Corazón by Auberge Resorts Collection offered the perfect setting for Eric’s birthday trip. With a luxuriously relaxed ambiance, stunning ocean views, and top-notch amenities, our stay at this resort turned out to be a magical family getaway.
The Resort
Located in Punta de Mita, Mexico, around a 45 minute drive from the Puerto Vallarta Airport (PVR), Susurros del Corazón is a sanctuary of natural beauty and beachfront luxury. Each of the 59 rooms, suites, and 30 villas are designed with indoor-outdoor living in mind, featuring private terraces and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the stunning views of Bahía de Banderas.
One of the highlights of the resort is its trio of cascading pools leading down to a private stretch of white sand beach. The Adult Pool, with its swim-up bar and oceanfront location, is a serene oasis for adults seeking ultimate relaxation. The Family Pool, centrally located, was absolutely perfect for our son (22 months old), with lots of shallow areas to splash around in and fun water features.
Whether you’re traveling as a couple, a small family, or have a large group in tow, Susurros offers a range of accommodations. Choose from spacious Guestrooms and Suites to Oceanfront Cliffside Residences (2 – 4 bedrooms) to sprawling Villas and Casas with 4 – 7 bedrooms and up to 20,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space.
While the resort property is expansive, it has a very boutique feel to it, as the guestrooms and villas are spread out and surrounded by lush landscaping. The resort is thoughtfully integrated into its environment, and I especially appreciate the celebration of Mexico’s rich craft culture with unique art, furnishings, and textiles by Mexican artists and designers. The resort is stylish and luxurious, yet manages to maintain a vibe that is warm, laidback, and unpretentious. It’s barefoot luxury at its finest.
Every nook and cranny of the property is gorgeous – from the stunning views at the cushy pool lounges to the perfect white-sand beach, to the chic beachfront restaurants.
Our Stay
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality (and a refreshing welcome drink – hello fermented pineapple cocktail). Our spacious Garden Casita, complete with a patio and small private lawn, was perfect for morning hangs with our little guy. The stunning ocean views and thoughtful details in our Casita made our stay incredibly comfortable.
Each day, it was a treat waking up to fresh coffee delivered to our door and enjoying the perfect morning air sipping coffee on our veranda (and playing with Legos, of course). Then it was off to breakfast at Casamilpa, the resort’s main restaurant just above the beach, where we indulged in delicious locally sourced Mexican dishes with sweeping ocean views.
We spent our days surfing, playing with our son at the pool and beach, eating delish fish tacos poolside, and taking in the spectacular sunsets each evening from the resort’s stunning white-sand beach. Susurros del Corazon was the perfect place for our little family celebration trip and we had an amazing time!
The Surf
Eric and I have spent quite a bit of time around Punta de Mita, and as a forever-intermediate surfer who loves point breaks and long rides, I’ve had a couple of the best surf sessions of my life in this area.

There are a couple of surf breaks right out front of the resort – one is ideal for beginners learning to surf, and the other is for more experienced surfers. The swell during our stay wasn’t right for the surf breaks directly in front of the resort, however, with multiple surf breaks within a 10-minute drive, we were able to steal away some great surf sessions nearby. That said, if you’re lucky enough to catch the resort breaks in action – you will likely have an uncrowded wave fest.
Punta de Mita and the surrounding area offer fun waves for all levels, with a mix of reef, point, and beach breaks. The area boasts consistent waves year-round, peaking from June to October with larger swells, while November to May offers smaller, more manageable waves ideal for beginners. Notable surf spots include La Lancha, perfect for all abilities with its mellow beach break, and El Anclote, great for longboarders. Advanced surfers can challenge themselves at Punta Burros or the right-hand reef break at La Bahia.
Wellness & Relaxation
The resort’s wellness facilities are exceptional. ONDA, the Auberge spa, offers a serene escape complete with a steam room, sauna, cold plunge, and hot tub. I indulged in a much-needed massage treatment and we loved the array of movement and wellness classes (many of them complimentary) available on the beach and in the airy studio.
Family-Friendly Amenities
Susurros del Corazón truly understands the needs of families traveling with children. For starters, our suite was outfitted with a crib and diaper pail for our little guy. As I mentioned, we loved spending our days at the sprawling family pool with lots of shallow areas and fun water features for kids to splash around in. I really appreciated the kid amenities at the restaurants with top-notch high chairs, plates, and utensils for little ones, and the weekly agenda includes family-friendly experiences like smores at the beach at sunset.
The Morritos Kids Club offers an array of weekly programming with fun and educational activities, with morning, afternoon, and full-day sessions available. For teens, the resort offers activities like tie-dye classes, handball, and volleyball games on the beach, ensuring that guests of all ages have an unforgettable experience.
The Bottom Line
Our stay at Susurros del Corazón was a dream come true to celebrate Eric’s birthday and we fully enjoyed every moment of our time there. This resort just happened to be our Plan B, however, I can confirm that it’s Plan A material all the way. The blend of luxurious comfort, stunning natural beauty, and top-notch amenities made it the perfect place to celebrate a birthday.
